Water Underfloor Heating in screed

Screed systems are by far the most popular and cost effective water underfloor heating system available today. Since they require the most amount of floor depth to install they are the best choice for new builds and extensions. This type of heating system works by encasing the pipes in a solid screed which turns the entire floor into a huge heat store. Very economical to run and very effective in heating all rooms including conservatories.

There are 3 different fixing methods for water underfloor heating screed systems to choose from…

PIPE STAPLES

  • A foil faced insulation board such as Kingspan
or Celotex is laid onto a level subfloor.
  • The pipes are held in placed with 60mm pipe
    staples spaced 50cm apart.
  • Once the pipe have been pressure tested, a fibre reinforced screed is poured over to provide a
    heat store.
  • The pipe staples are the cheapest fixing method available for screed systems, but are very time consuming especially on large installations.
  • PRO TIP! To speed up the installation, use a
staple gun to save time and a sore back!

CLIP RAIL

  • 1m self adhesive clips rails are stuck to a foil
faced insulation board such as Kingspan or
    Celotex, spaced 50cm apart (2 rails/sqm).
  • The pipe is pushed into the U shaped clips
    and clicks firmly in place.
  • Once the pipe has been pressure tested, a fibre reinforced screed is poured over to provide
    a heat store.
  • This fixing method is quicker & more accurate
than pipe staples but costs more.
  • PRO TIP! If floor depth is limited and the
insulation board is not deep enough to hold
60mm staples, the clip rails are the best choice.

EGG CRATE

  • The egg crate is laid onto a foiled faced insulation board such as Kingspan or Celotex and does not
need to be bonded to the board.
  • The pipe is pushed between the pre-set spacings
    and held firmly in place.
  • Once the pipe has been pressure tested, a fibre reinforced screed is poured over to provide a heat store.
  • The plastic egg crate system is ideal for larger installations and can massively reduce installation times, but is the most expensive option.
  • PRO TIP! Sling the pipe coil onto your shoulder
and walk the pipe into place, massively reducing installation times and only needing one person
    on the job.

Our range of pert-al-pert pipe is manufactured to ISO9001 European standards ensuring a lifetime of outstanding performance & reliability.

Five layer 16mm pert-al-pert pipe is used in all of our warm water underfloor heating kits and offers unrivaled suitability for underfloor heating by combining the best elements of a plastic and metal pipe into one product.

The aluminium core provides strength and importantly acts as an oxygen barrier to stop the ingress of oxygen into the system causing premature wear (corrosion) to the manifold. The aluminium layer also makes the pipe form-stable, making it very easy to work with by eliminating spring back for easier installation.
