Underfloor Heating Mixing Valve with Grundfos Pump
(inc VAT)
Suitable up to a 15kW heat load, our compact and lightweight controller pack comes with a Grundfos pump for direct connection to the manifold and is supplied fully assembled in left hand format with G1 male swivel flat seal unions as standard. Its versatile design and union joint connections make installing to the manifold simple, and since it requires no additional support brackets, eliminates any additional drilling and fixing.
The mixing valve lets you set the flow temperature between 35 and 65°C and can be fed by any type of heat source including oil and gas boilers, wood burning stoves as well as solar, ground and air source heat pumps. Each control pack includes the thermostatic mixing valve, A-rated Grundfos UPM3 Flex pump, manifold adapter and necessary seals.
How Does it Work?
In any type of water underfloor heating system, both the pump and mixing valve play crucial roles in ensuring efficient and effective operation:
Pump:
- Circulation of Water: The pump is responsible for circulating water through the underfloor heating system. It helps maintain a consistent flow of warm water from the heat source (such as a boiler or a heat pump) to the pipes embedded in the floor, and then back to the heat source for reheating.
- Even Heat Distribution: By continuously moving water through the system, the pump ensures that heat is evenly distributed across the entire floor surface. This contributes to a more uniform and comfortable heating of the living space.
Mixing Valve:
- Temperature Control: The mixing valve is crucial for controlling the temperature of the water circulating in the underfloor heating system. It mixes hot water from the heat source with cooler water from the return loop to achieve the desired temperature for the underfloor heating system.
- Prevents Overheating: Since the water temperature needed for space heating is often lower than that produced by the heat source (e.g., boiler), the mixing valve helps prevent overheating of the floor and maintains a comfortable indoor temperature.
Together, the pump and mixing valve work in tandem to optimize the performance of the water underfloor heating system. The pump ensures that water circulates efficiently, while the mixing valve regulates the temperature, preventing the system from becoming too hot. Proper sizing, installation, and maintenance of these components are essential to achieving an energy-efficient and comfortable underfloor heating system.
